A Fabulous Party for a Beautiful Friend

The setting for Ellen’s 50th birthday celebration was almost as gorgeous as the Birthday Girl herself. Last night’s party at Solea in San Francisco was splendid. The food and wine were delicious, and as you can see, there were beautiful people everywhere. Thanks to Itzik for pulling it all together!

It’s Almost 90 Flippin’ Degrees!

Hard to believe it’s almost November. Of course, two of my whacky roommates are lovin’ the unwelcome heat wave. We’ve got to get moving though. We’re heading to the city to celebrate a dear friend’s 50th(!) birthday. I guess you know what that means… Come back soon for more photos!

Is She Amazing, or What?

I’ll admit it – the thought of rolling out of bed extra early on a Sunday morning to run in a 12 kilometer race has never crossed my mind. The same can not be said for my fantastic and highly motivated wife. She and Steve completed the annual KFOG Bridge to Bridge race before I…

In The Zone

It would be easy to get the impression from my pictures that all we do out here in the bay area is eat and drink wine. Well, it’s just not true. During the day, we all work very hard – so that we can spend our evenings with friends enjoying fine food and wine. The…

Tachibana – Take II

Last night finds us at one of our most favorite restaurants with two of our most favorite people – Chris and Ben. We started the evening with wine and a cool sunset on their balcony. At the restaurant, Sam, our favorite sushi chef tried a special dish on us – he calls it “Wheel of…

Afro Celt Sound System at Stern Grove

This afternoon Jim and Kelly and more than 10,000 of our best friends attended a free concert in Stern Grove – one of San Francisco’s most excellent parks. The intimate park features a natural ampitheater where they have been holding free Sunday concerts for 66 years. Kelly and I jumped at the chance to see…

Mmmm… Soooshi

OK, sorry Grant and Sandy and Tom and Julie and Chris and Ben and… I’ll admit – it was impulsive thing to do. We should have invited all of you to the best sushi bar in the world – Tachibana. I hope you’ll forgive us for indulging on edamame, hamachi sashimi, unagi, spicy scallops, spider…

Photo of the Day

(With apologies to those of you who have seen these a squillion times.) Whenever I go back through my photos looking for so-called “classic” images, I always land on these – taken shortly after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. You may recall that the Bay Bridge was damaged and closed for a few months. During…

Celebrity Sighting!

To celebtate the arrival of summer we took the top off the Jeep and hit the road. (I’m sure this comes as no surprise to those who know Jim and Kelly’s true character – that of the rugged back-to-nature types.) It was a nice thought, but one that did not last for long – what…

Scott’s Seafood

Later that night at dinner… (Next time Kerry visits we’ll be sure to take her to Scott’s. The Cajun Popcorn Shrimp is yummy, and the Oysters Rockefeller are superb. Kelly loves her crab salad, too!)  &nbsp

Happy Cinco de Mayo

Even though it’s getting late, I have to take a moment to give a very stong recommendation to a fabulous restaurant. Our good friends Tom and Julie recommended that we celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Dona Tomas None of us had ever eaten there before. We were not disppointed. Dona Tomas is outstanding. Highly recommended!

Little Fluffy Clouds

A site seldom seen in the bay area – magnificent display of cumulus congestus. (Yes, I looked it up.) These images were captured by Steve Fossum from the ferry on the San Francisco Bay.

Dashe Winery

Well, what a nice surprise! Looking for an excuse to get out of the house on a gorgeous day in the Bay Area, we decided to make a wine run to Rosenblum Cellars – one of our favorite stops in nearby Alameda. To our surprise, there was an event in progress at the abandoned shipyard…
