Steve Davidson sent me a couple hundred images shot by his brother Jimmy on a trip he made to India, in 1996 as far as I can tell. There are several boxes of 35mm Kodachromes, shot with a Fuji camera I loaned him for the trip as well as a few dozen 6×6 cm images shot on Fujichrome film in a twin-lens-reflex – probably a Yashica or Rolleiflex.
This prompted me to purchase an Epson film scanner and embark on yet another scanning project – this time featuring shots taken by Jimmy D. (Yes, having a scanner again will undoubtedly inspire me to take another look at my images too, so you’ve been warned.)
I’ll be posting the images here (in no particular order) on Google Plus because I don’t want them to go through the Facebook image crapification filter. I’m scanning at 6,400 dpi, and will post medium-resolution images here – about 2,500 pixels wide. (If you see something you’d like to print, let me know, and I’ll hook you up with the highest quality files.)
I promise not to alter the images too much. I will, of course, dust spot them and fix the color, and when it’s obvious what Jimmy D was after, perhaps I’ll take the images a bit closer to what I believe he wanted them to look like.
Wherever possible, I’ll try to add a geotag to the images. Today’s were easy. Others will not be. Maybe we can contact the group he traveled with and get more info.
Let’s start with a couple images Jimmy shot at the Taj Mahal.
More soon.
Yes, I knew that. I was actually just thinking about him and this trip the other day. What a coincidence that you post pictures of the trip a few days later. Thanks for sharing Steve!!!!!
Thanks for doing this. Was this the same trip where he went to Tibet?
Yeah – for sure this is the only trip of this kind he ever went on. If I recall, he trekked up a mountain through Darjeeling to get a look at the world’s third highest mountain-> https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangchenjunga
I have looked at all the transparencies now. I can’t wait to share the rest of them with the CLAMS!
Looking forward to seeing them.
Bob and I had Carol, Nancy and Jimmy over and he talked about this trip. I wish that I could remember everything that he talked about. I do recall how excited he was and that he couldn’t find the words to explain how amazing and beautiful Nepal was.
But – no slide show, right? He seems to have shot a lot of pictures of the same events and locations. I wish he had taken more!
Do you know any of his fellow trekkers?
Jim Pire
No, we did not see any pictures. I wish he would have brought them with him. 🙁
I do not think I know any of his fellow trekkers.
Thanks Jim!!
Beautimus!
