An Image Slider. w00t!

So, this is cool. I implemented a simple before-and-after image slider so that I can show the effect of the AI image enhancements I’ve been doing with Krea and PhotoShop.

Before and After

I saw this very poorly PhotoShopped image in one of our product brochures, and saw so many problems with it that I just HAD to do a better version.

Passau

We crossed the border between Austria and Germany and docked at one of our favorite towns along the Danube, picturesque Passau, which sits at the confluence of three rivers, the Inn, the Ilz and the Danube. This location is plagued by frequent major floods, the largest ever occurring in 2013, where flood levels reached over…

Cawley Christmas Card

I have wanted to post this one for a while, but had to wait until after Christmas. I’m pretty pleased with these joyful shots. They look great on the card.

Happy Turkey Day!

We enjoyed a splendid day with crystal clear air at The Burt’s with our best pals.

This will be the largest thing I ever printed.

There will be ten of these – each 16 feet wide and 6-1/2 feet tall – depicting some Burning Man activity. This year’s theme is “I Robot”. The first three scenes show the ‘bots building the man and the man base, and crashing the party in their Winnebago. Andrew get’s 95% of the credit. I’ll…

Lombard Street

Last night I went on a scouting mission. I’m looking for a location for an upcoming project. The Creative Director floated this top-of-Lombard-Street idea. I’m certainly not the first to make this shot, but I was surprised at how easy it was to grab this 30-second time exposure on a cold and windy summer night…

A new typeface!

Now, THIS is exciting! Monotype has created a brilliant update to the gorgeous Johnston typeface on the occasion of its 100th birthday. This is very serious business. Watch the video to get a sense for just how exciting this is!   Just to tease me, it appears that they released the bold version only. Of…

Ocean View Drive

I like this hand-help time exposure from our recent Pacific Grove trip.

Some Vials and a Box

I often do not know exactly what I’m rendering. I just try to make things look good. Unfortunately, our products will never look like this on our web site. Our “real” real product shots are required to have a pure white background and a reflective white foreground à la outdated Apple ads, but this is…

Pillows

Sewn from one of my favorite typefaces – Chuck. Motivation for Dude pillows came from this excellent tutorial. I had planned to make inflatable vinyl letters, but the slightest tweak in lighting and materials produced this by accident, and it works for me.

Yosemite

After working on a few of my images, I confirmed what I already suspected. Yosemite looks better in black and white. The reason for this, as Mr. Adams clearly knew, is that you can make much larger image adjustments without destroying the image. The color image below was enhanced as much as I can stand….

Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta

We’ve all seen pictures of this amazing event, rumored to be the most photographed event in the world. While it is an amazing photo-op, pictures cannot capture the controlled chaos of the simultaneous launch of hundreds of whacky, colorful balloons. You can walk right up to the action. Balloon pilots and crew are happy to…

2015 Ion Summer Party

We had a company picnic yesterday. As far as I can tell, there was no particular reason for it, but it was a beautiful day, and the pictures worked out well. View the rest of the photos here.

Palais Garnier

Day Eight In my opinion, one of the most spectacular sites in Paris is the Opera House, better known to locals as Palais Garnier. I’d rank it higher than the crowded Palace of Versailles.

Oakland Skyline Update

We’ve had about enough of the almost non-stop helicopter sounds outside our window. There are three or four in the air almost every evening that doesn’t include rain. Click for a closer look at this 15,000 pixel-wide view from my rooftop. It’s not the sharpest image ever taken, but this is because the shots were…
