(With apologies to those of you who have seen these a squillion times.)
Whenever I go back through my photos looking for so-called “classic” images, I always land on these – taken shortly after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
You may recall that the Bay Bridge was damaged and closed for a few months. During the closure, I had the incredibly good fortune of being allowed on the bridge so that I could do a computer service call at Treasure Island.
Sensing that this was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I made sure my camera was loaded with film before I passed through the two checkpoints and onto the bridge. The MP barked, “Stay between the cones, and NO STOPPING!” Yeah right! I strayed outside the cones, I stopped, balanced the camera on the back of the minivan and took the shot.
Alone on the Bay Bridge. It’ll never happen again.
One of the MANY things I love about you Jim, is that you f**king plan ahead! GREAT shots of the bridge (they have been added to my wallpaper collection) and love the Treasure Island link – wow great SF and N. Calif images!
Thanks for sharing stuff with the rest of the world.
I know it’s “..because it really is all about me”. But it’s really “..because it’s all about US too!”.
love ya, man!
Why thanks, Bruce! That makes this all worthwhile. 🙂
Cones, schmones!
You’re BAD to the BLOG!!! Very COOL DUDE…
Very cool idea. The next challenge will be for Jim to see if he can get a similar shot standing on the new Bay bridge once it is complete…

Came here to see this again after seeing this picture of the GGB with one car. This and the Greenland glacier one are so amazing. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10218558546429404&set=gm.1111086552575972&type=3&theater
