All is Not for McNaught

If not for my Astronomically inclined pal Andrew, I might never have heard of Comet McNaught. Thankfully, he keeps me abreast of such things, and so tonight your intrepid photographer could be seen shivering in the 30-something degree temperatures at the top of Grizzly Peak in Berkeley attempting to photograph the brightest object in the night sky for the last 30 years - Comet McNaught. Unfortunately, the bright comet could only be seen against an equally bright sunset, so some might say the event was less than amazing, but not us. We enjoyed every second of our spectacular Bay Area sunset on this - the clearest night we've ever seen. See the Farallon Islands out beyond the Golden Gate Bridge? They are at least 35 miles away. What a spectacular day!

Oh, and if you look very closely, you can just see Comet McNaught in the shot above on the right.

i have definitely noticed how clear it's been out. of course that's mean the temperature has been dropping below the freezing point at night. brrrrr!

There were some spectacular views of the comet in Wisconsin. Although we tried to see it on several nights, we were never in the right place at the right time. It was too bright, there were clouds in the way, the trees were in the way, it was to dark..... What ever. Our local news stations got some really nice shots of it though. Love your shots - beautiful!

Heavy sigh. Dude, once again, you amaze me. My birthday is coming up in May....hmmm, maybe a shot for a wall at Cowpoke Alley? I'm partial to the first and third ones..hint, hint.....:-)

Still no EXIF's on your pictures... :(

Turns out preserving the EXIF data is a bit more work than I'd like it to be. It's at least one extra mouse click and two key presses. I'll see if I can train myself...

OK, OK! EXIF's included in the McNaught images. More to follow. :)
