Birthday Party Invitation

Kelly’s birthday party invitation received mixed reviews. Some missed the reference to 2007 word of the year — w00t! Most seemed to recognized the layout based loosely on WIRED magazine. Others questioned our choice of photo. For us it was easy – we chose it because she has a glass of champagne in each hand. :)

Oakland Zoo Lights

One of the most charming events we’ve seen this holiday season is the Oakland ZooLights. Periodically, the tens of thousands of Christmas lights are set to music in a dazzling light show. Fun for kids and bah-humbuggers alike!

Happy Thanksgiving!

After Kelly put some sparkly Christmas stuff in the bathroom, we enjoyed an absolutely splendid afternoon in Jack London Square. We wish you all a wonderful holiday.

Congratulations, Bailey and Oscar!

Bailey and Oscar tied the knot this weekend at a lovely ceremony. Luckily, they hired a professional photographer, which left me free to concentrate on the fun and the pretty girls!

The food was excellent.
Hillary gets the full treatment. Handsome young dude.
This little dude loves to dance! He was just soo cute! First dance as husband and wife. The newlyweds. Awwww...
The bride and groom. Hooray! The outcome of the toss was fixed.

See the rest of the pictures here, or if you would like an easy way to download them to your computer or have photographic prints made, view them in my Picasa web album. (Hint, for best results, install Picasa on your machine.)

Carnaval 2009

We almost didn’t go this year. We thought that the temperatures in the low-50′s with heavy overcast skies might mean fewer scantily-clad revelers. Luckily, we were wrong.

Beauty in red and orange.

Fabulous feathers. Young spectators get into the spirit of Carnaval.
Beauty! Banging the drum at Carnaval.
Pink is my new favorite color. B-a-d ride.
Wow. There were at least three very pregnant women in this year's parade. All ages can participate in the Carnaval parade!
Lovely. We love these costumes.

As always, I had a hard time choosing my favorites to display above. There are so many more. Please take a look at all of the images by clicking here or here, and if you see anyone you know, pass it on!

Happy Easter!

thedude and Kelly celebrated the day with a non-traditional Easter brunch at the Claremont Hotel. We raised a toast to the U.S. Navy for rescuing Captain Phillips unharmed.

Bloody mary in the morning on a beautiful Easter Sunday. Easter brunch

This was also a chance to experiment with my new Canon G10, which so far is wonderful to shoot with, and produces amazing images for a camera of its size. I think I’ll be using this new camera a lot.

Carmel Weekend

One of the best things about the Bay Area is that you can drive two hours and see sights like these and end up in Carmel-By-The-Sea. And if you’re like us, you’ll take the wrong turn at least once and discover a cemetery bursting with colorful flowers, lush, green fields, happy cows and sea lions on the rocks below Highway 1.

Flower-filled cemetery. We're guessing this is an Easter tradition. A few of those California "happy cows".
Kelly looks over the cliff... ... at the sea lions 700 feet below us.

The next day, you can explore some of the Carmel’s unique shops enjoy lunch at the over-the-top Post Ranch Inn with a ridiculously splendid view of the green rolling hills and the ocean below, and spot California Condors floating gracefully above. These birds can grow to have a wing-span of 9-1/2 feet and weigh 22 pounds. They’re awesome to see this close. The shot below was shot with an 85 mm lens. The huge bird was maybe 30 feet away.

thedude could not talk Kelly into buying these. Dining room with a drop-dead view.
Star Anise Braised Pork Pot Stickers with Sweet Soy and Plum Sauce. California Condor number 94.

And if that’s not enough goodness, you can sit in the beach with your wonderful wife and watch the hardy surfer dudes catch the last wave before sunset.

Kelly finds the perfect spot on the beach. Surfer contemplates getting back in the frigid water.
Liquid gold. Waiting for the last wave of the day.

Happy anniversary, Kelly. You’re the best!
