First Annual Crab Crawl
There really wasn’t much crab at the The Port of Oakland’s First Annual Crab Crawl. Turnout was decent, and despite the blustery weather, Kelly managed to snag a couple pairs of earrings.
“But Jim, they’re only twelve dollars, so I have to buy them!”
This is the sort of logic I have to deal with at all “crap fairs”. Oh well. I can’t win that one.

A Shameful Story
A reader who saw one of my entries about Diego Garcia suggested I take a look at an award-winning story which details the despicable treatment forced upon the 2,000 original inhabitants of Diego Garcia. The fact that there were any inhabitants other than the workers on the copra plantation came as a shock to me. Although I was never actually told this by anyone of authority on the island, it was “common knowledge” that the island had no indigenous population.
Eventually, I read about this shameful story at various Internet sites, but this video offers much more detail about the horrible treatment endured by the original inhabitants of this beautiful island. I found the video quite disturbing. I wonder how I would have felt about going if I had known this story in advance.

We’re Gonna Need a Bigger Boat
It’s been a long time since I put anything on my wish list, so here it is. A lens to die for. Or at least to die lugging around. “No news on price, availability or weight yet.”

Spring is Here
While most of the rest of the country is experiencing freezing temperatures are snow, spring brought glorious blue skies and near 70 degree temperatures to the Bay Area this weekend. Splendiferous!! What’s a little earthquake now and then when you can have have weather like this on March 3rd?
After Saturday brunch at Sam’s in Tiburon we took the long way home so that we could stop to gaze again at one of the world’s most spectacular engineering achievements – the Golden Gate bridge. We never get tired of this spot – especially on a crystal clear day like Saturday was. Wow.
Later that evening, thedude was just too lazy to get his butt in to the city for a tremendous photo opportunity – the Chinese New Year’s Parade. Those dang press photographers get all the angles anyway. Oh well, maybe next year…
Sunday we walked down to the fabulous farmer’s market at Jack London Square, where thedude shot a few generic Jack London Square photos for a project he’s working on.

Coming About
I wasn’t too excited about what I saw through the viewfinder when I snapped these images of a sculpture in downtown Tiburon, but after tweaking them just a bit in PhotoShop, I have now decided that I like them all.
