Don’t ask. I’m sworn to secrecy.

Happy Birthday, Tom!

Published: March 27th, 2004

We were blessed with perfect weather for our first visit to Tom’s new pad. We were there to celebrate his 41st birthday. It was beautiful! Many thanks to Julie and Emile for the totally awesome chow. And, of course, let’s not forget Tom’s mother’s amazing lumpia! We love your place, Tom. I’m looking forward to many more warm summer nights on your balcony!

Dining Out - And Not at Soizic!

Published: March 26th, 2004

venezia.jpgKelly and I did something we rarely do. We ventured beyond our beloved Jack London Square to try a new restaurant. We figured it was about ime we used that four-year-old gift certificate.

Venezia was nice. The place is decorated to give the feeling of an outdoor Italian cafe.

It’s a Tough Job…

We would not normally attempt lunch at Rutherford Grill, wine tasting at five wineries and dinner at Soizic all in the same day, but when special friends are in town, we have been known to make exceptions.

It was really great seeing you again, James. You are welcome any time!

Tai Chi Under a Big-Ass Tree

Published: March 20th, 2004

Jim is here! His visit coincided with an eleven day record-breaking heat wave. We made the most of it by spending as much time outdoors as possible. Despite thedude’s well-known disdain for nature, we trekked up to Muir Woods where Jim was able to fulfill his wish to practice Tai Chi among the majestic trees. Then we took the long way home so we could stop at the Golden Gate Recreation Area for another of thedude’s signature shots - a Golden Gate panorama. (The print is on it’s way, James.)

What an awesome day!

Happy Birthday, Joanna

Published: March 6th, 2004

Jim and Kelly will be very sad to see our dear fiends Paul and Joanna move to Temecula next month. None of us were thinking about that tonight though, while toasting Fatso’s 39th with a couple pilsners and a smoked pork shank with spaetzle at Speisekammer.

Happy Birthday with lots of love from Jim and Kelly. :-)

Cavalia

Published: March 5th, 2004

One thing I really love about being married to Kelly is that she insists on dragging my tired butt to events I would not otherwise consider attending. A show sounding something like Cirque-du-Soleil with horses would not necessarily appeal to me. I mean, I love acrobatics, but horses are big and scary! I mean, when I see these giants I get scared! Don’t you??? Yikes!

As it turned out, Cavalia was a blast. I smiled through most of it and was on the edge of my seat more than at any other show I’ve ever seen umder the bigtop. The animals and their superbly fit (and very brave!) trainers were beautiful, the sets were striking, the music was excellent. The mood was upbeat, the stars and their trainers seemed to be enjoying every second of the show, as did the sold out crowd.

Naturally, photos were not allowed during the performance. We were, however allowed to take non-flash pictures after the show in the stables, but the huge, hungry horsies simply refused to stand still, so every picture with a real live one-ton (kinda scary) animal in it is useless.
